What is the SUKMA game? 

The SUKMA game is a biennial youth sports tournament organized by The National Sports Council of Malaysia, the Malaysian Olympic Council, the National Sports Association, and the State Government.


There are a few main goals for SUKMA, which include:

  • Discovering new talent
  • The rotation of states as hosts aim to improve sports facilities in the states
  • Assist the development of sports as a whole in Malaysia

The festival began in 1986, with Kuala Lumpur being the inaugural host city.


What does SUKMA stand for? 

SUKMA is a short form of Sukan Malaysia.

It is a ‘multi-sports competition’ with the concept of ‘Mini Olympic Games’ in Malaysia involving teenage athletes.


The History of SUKMA

This event was first held in 1986, with Kuala Lumpur serving as the first host city. Today, it is already the 20th time we have had this event.

Where is SUKMA 2022? 

SUKMA 2022 is initially planned to play in Johor, but it has now changed its location to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 

Most of the venues for the 20th SUKMA will be held in these four locations in Klang Valley – Kuala Lumpur, Bangi (including Nilai and Putrajaya), Bukit Jalil and Shah Alam – while sailing will be organized at the Pusat Latihan Perahu Layar Kebangsaan, Langkawi.


What you should know about SUKMA 2022

  • The event “SUKMA 2022” will be ongoing from 16 September 2022 until 24 September 2022. It was initially scheduled to take place on 11 – 19 July 2020 but was delayed for 2 years due to COVID-19.
  • The 20th SUKMA was supposed to be held from Sept 29 – Oct 8, 2022, but the organizer announced in June 2022 that it would start two weeks earlier than the planned date.
  • SUKMA in the year 2022 reduced the minimum participation to six states compared to eight states (only for the 2022 edition) for each event.
  • SUKMA 2022 will have 31 types of sports and 445 events.
