This year’s FIFA World Cup is truly unlike any other. With unexpected wins and impressive defeats, the 2022 World Cup is truly one to watch – and this is especially the case for Japan and South Korea.

The two make history as they emerge victorious against the big leagues along the likes of Spain and Germany.

Since 2002, the two teams have not advanced beyond the Round of 16, which makes this a historic feat and a huge win as representatives of Asia in the World Cup.

Ritsu Doan and Ao Tanaka scored goals as Japan defeats previous world champion Spain 2-1 and advance as group winners to the 2022 FIFA World Cup knockout stage. Spain advances as the runner-up.

Despite a thrilling 4-2 victory over Costa Rica, Germany is eliminated from the FIFA World Cup in 2022 after Japan’s victory over Spain. Germany has been eliminated before the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup for the second time in a row.

South Korea provided late drama thanks to Hwang Hee-Chan, whose injury-time goal gave his nation a 2-1 victory over Portugal and a spot in the World Cup knockout rounds.

Hwang Hee-Chan, one of the substitutes who had finally recovered from an injury, ended up saving the day with his last-gasp strike.

South Korea is set to play against Brazil, the tournament favourite and top-ranked team entering the tournament, while Japan will take on Croatia, the 2018 World Cup runner-up this December 5.

What else can we expect from these two teams moving forward?
