6 Decorating Secrets From Top Interior Designers

As time passes and we stay in the same house, we begin to want to redecorate it. Whether you have lived in a house for 3 months or 30 years, we all need a little change every now and then. However, you do not want to just decorate your home any old how, you want your house to look good and act as a reflection of yourself. Here we will tell you 6 decorating secrets that top designers swear by.

1. Don’t push furniture up against the walls

It seems like a small detail; however, by pulling your furniture, whether it is a table, a chair, a sofa or a cupboard, even by just a few inches gives the room a warm, lived in look.

2. Measure a dining table before buying it

Don’t you just hate it when you don’t have enough space to fit in that lovely table you just ordered into the space you had planned to? That is why you should always measure a dining table before you buy it. If you are tight on space then consider getting a round table. It fits well in a corner and the lack of edges offers more space.

3. Don’t Forget The Ceiling

When you start decorating, you usually think of the walls, the furniture and then the floor. One place everyone forgets about is the ceiling. Treat your ceiling like a fifth wall, it’s just as important and will definitely brighten up your home when you do it right. Try contrasting colours or an unusual chandelier.

4. A pinch of colour keeps a room youthful

Some people don’t want to paint their walls a bright colour. If you are one of these people that’s okay, you can add colour through accessories. You would be surprised how lively you can make a space with a blanket, a pillow, a vase, a painting, a rug or a lamp. Colour can really affect your mood and puts some positive vibes into your room.

5. Place your rug based on its size

We use a rug as a reference to arrange our furniture around. Big rugs are good to arrange your sofa and chairs, tables and vases around. You can even use rugs to help separate living spaces.

6. Keep it comfortable

Whatever your personal style may be, whether casual, classic, sophisticated, minimalist or bohemian, the most important thing is to make your home liveable. A good looking home is nice, however, a well-designed home is one that is both comfortable and functional.

Decorating a house may not be the easiest thing to do, but it is a lot of fun. Because when you decorate your house you are reflecting yourself and your personality. You can be as creative as you want to be. So with your new found knowledge, don’t just go about decorating your house, have fun while you’re doing it.
