Penang has the reputation as being the “food paradise” of the region as it offers a diverse and exotic mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian cuisine, which reflects the multicultural mix of the city. Most of the food is sold at road-side stalls, known as ‘hawker food’. The best places to savour Penang’s food include Gurney Drive, Pulau Tikus, New Lane, New World Park, Penang Road and Chulia Street, as well as Raja Uda and Chai Leng Park over on the mainland. At the food court, you can find local favorites such as Penang Laksa, Bak Kuk Teh (a herbal stew of pork ribs and meat), Oh Chien (fried oyster omelette), grilled squid, and nasi lemak.

Shopping

Unlike the other islands, Penang has Multiple luxurious shopping malls to offer. The malls are mainly situated in and around the city of Georgetown. Some famous shopping malls include Menara Komtar complex, Prangin Mall, Gurney Plaza and Straits Quay.

Chinatown is only a few 100 yards away from the Komtar complex. There are a few night markets in Georgetown, the most famous is the one from Batu Ferringhi.
